カップの4 Four of Cups
Waite はカップの4を、木の下に座る若者が三つの杯を見つめ、雲から差し出される四つ目の杯にも不満げな図とし、正位置では倦怠、嫌悪、反感、想像上の悩みと、差し出された慰めを見出せない状態、入り混じった快楽を意味するとしている。逆位置には新奇、前兆、新しい教え、新しい関係を挙げ、追加の意味では対立と、逆位置に予感を記している。
正位置の意味
倦怠、嫌悪、反感、想像上の悩み。あたかもこの世の酒が飽満しかもたらさなかったかのようである。妖精の贈り物のような別の酒が今この放蕩者に差し出されているが、彼はそこに何の慰めも見出さない。これはまた、入り混じった快楽のカードでもある。

Weariness, disgust, aversion, imaginary vexations, as if the wine of this world had caused satiety only; another wine, as if a fairy gift, is now offered the wastrel, but he sees no consolation therein. This is also a card of blended pleasure.
