ペンタクルの5 Five of Pentacles
Waite はペンタクルの5を、吹雪の中で灯りのともった窓の前を通り過ぎる二人の物乞いの図柄とし、何よりもまず物質的な困難、とりわけ困窮を予告するカードとしている。一方で一部のカード占い師は愛と恋人たちのカードとも読み、これらの選択肢は調和させられないと述べ、逆位置には無秩序、混沌、破滅、不和、放蕩を置いている。
正位置の意味
このカードは何よりもまず物質的な困難を予告する。図に示された形——すなわち困窮——であれ、それ以外の形であれ。一部のカード占い師〔cartomancists〕にとっては、これは愛と恋人たちのカード——妻、夫、友人、愛人——であり、また一致、親和性でもある。これらの選択肢は調和させることができない。

The card foretells material trouble above all, whether in the form illustrated—that is, destitution—or otherwise. For some cartomancists, it is a card of love and lovers—wife, husband, friend, mistress; also concordance, affinities. These alternatives cannot be harmonized.
